Gothenburg, Sweden. 12 November 2025. Mölnlycke Health Care, a global leader in MedTech, is the first company to donate a patent to SKF’s groundbreaking digital platform, The Patent Bay – taking bold action to harness collaboration and accelerate innovation in sustainable healthcare.

“We are proud to be part of this pioneering initiative,” says Zlatko Rihter, CEO of Mölnlycke Health Care. “Our purpose is to revolutionise care for people and planet. Supporting The Patent Bay is a powerful way to help turn that purpose into action.”
Today’s healthcare systems are under immense pressure to deliver the right care to the right patients, often with fewer resources. Mölnlycke believes that embracing partnerships, collaboration and openness are key to overcoming these challenges. By contributing to The Patent Bay, Mölnlycke is helping unlock new opportunities to help shape more sustainable healthcare systems for the future.
Mölnlycke is sharing a patent family relating to a method to determine a patient’s risk score. The innovation uses patient data to help caregivers predict risks and tailor treatments more effectively. By comparing a patient’s health profile to large-scale models, the patented method may improve treatment accuracy, reduce unnecessary interventions and lower healthcare costs.
Mölnlycke is making its patent freely accessible to innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers and healthcare providers worldwide, with the ultimate aim to improve patient outcomes.
“The Patent Bay was founded to accelerate progress through open knowledge and shared innovation. Mölnlycke Health Care’s decision to share smarter patient risk scoring highlights the power of collaboration—enabling better care and advancing healthcare for all. It’s a clear reminder that sharing drives meaningful progress for people, society and the planet,” says Annika Ölme, CTO and Senior Vice President, Technology Development at SKF.
Zlatko Rihter adds, “We encourage other organisations to join us in contributing to The Patent Bay to help drive open innovation for a more sustainable future.”
